I resorted to using a sound recorder for health reasons. I can't for the love of me remember the numbers between getting off my hi-tech scale to sitting down at the computer and inputting the data into a spreadsheet. I guess I still need to shove some saturated fat into my brain, but for now, Smart Voice Recorder works just as well.
What can be so smart about a sound recorder? The best thing such an app can do better is to preserve storage space. Without resorting to lower bitrates, Smart Voice Recorder can pause recording automatically during periods of silence. You can leave the app to set the threshold, or you can fix it yourself in real time by swiping up and down on the audio graph lines. Neat, right?!
Of course, you can also change the recording bitrate. The setting goes from lowest, at 8kHz, to 44.1 kHz (CD quality). The app lets you adjust the microphone volume, either manually or based on your device's auto gain control.
Finally, you can set a default location for storing Smart Voice Recorder audio files. From the recordings list, you can share the audio data to e-mail and other cloud services, as well as set recordings as your phone's ringtone. You cannot choose the audio format, however. The audio recordings are saved as uncompressed wave files.
- Automatic silence-skipping feature
- Manual control over silence threshold in real time
- Variable recording bitrates
- Share function
- Set recordings as ringtone
Smart Voice Recorder is perfect for recording conversations, either as part of interviews or undercover information gathering. Setting up the optimal bitrate and using the silence skipping function, you can capture sound for hours without giving away your ploy.
